Borneo Terms & Conditions for
Journey into the Rainforest with Dr Birute

Payment policy: All prices are in U. S. dollars.
Price of trips are quoted per person based on two people sharing a double or
twin accommodation. If you are traveling solo there is a single
supplement charge. We will do our best to find you a roommate but there are
no guarantees. Please indicate on the application form if you are traveling
alone or wish to share.
Prices are based on a minimum 13 people traveling in the group. We reserve
the right to increase the price of the tour should the minimum not be met or
air and land prices increase beyond our control due to currency fluctuations
or other unforeseen circumstances. Prices do not include international airfare
but do include roundtrip airfare from Jakarta to Pangkalanbun. We have some
very good international rates from the United States or Canada to Jakarta.
We also have some excellent custom independent extensions to Malaysia, Bali,
Yogyakarta, and Komodo Island. Please note that airfare prices are never guaranteed
until paid in full and tickets are issued.
A deposit of $500.00 USD per person is required to guarantee your reservation.
The balance is due 90 days prior to departure. If participating in a Komodo
extension or other custom extension, an additional deposit of $500.00 USD per
person is due. Total 1000.00 per person. On the extension, $500.00 per person
of the deposit is non- refundable plus $250.00 for the Orangutan tour (total
$750.00 per person non- refundable). Reservations made within 30 days of departure will incur a 100.00 additional charge.
Cancellation policy: Cancellation penalties will be $250.00 per person or 50% of the deposit if cancelled for any reason 90 days or more prior to departure date. A cancellation fee of 750.00 will apply if a custom extension is involved. If cancelled within the 90-day time frame no refund will be made. All cancellations must be made in writing and sent to Irene Spencer, Protravel International, 2300 Crescent Drive, San Diego, CA 92103. Cancellations also may be emailed to Irene@orangutan.travel or faxed to 619- 241-7789. Travel insurance will generally cover cancellation for covered reasons that are listed in the travel insurance brochure or insurance web site. There are no refunds for unused portions of the trip; e.g., unused hotel accommodations or internal airfare, whether voluntary or involuntary.
Change fee: When changes are made after a trip has been confirmed and guaranteed,
there is an administrative change fee of $75.00 USD. This fee is in addition
to any costs or penalties imposed by the companies affected by the newly requested
or cancelled services.
Trip cancellation & travel protection insurance: Protravel International,
Protravel Southwest Div., Irene Spencer Travel LLC. and OFI require that you
purchase trip cancellation and travel protection insurance. The policy we recommend
covers you for pre-existing medical conditions and must be purchased within
14 days of initial deposit.The price is based on age and total cost of trip. Insurance is non-refundable.
Our travel insurer is Travelex insurance services and can be arranged by us.
General Terms and Conditions
Eligibility: You must be 18 years of age (except for children
15 years or older accompanied by a parent or designated responsible adult)
and in acceptable health to participate in any of our group programs. Children
under the age of 15 are not allowed to participate. Final acceptance of your
application is subject to our review. We reserve the right to request medical
clearance or any additional information.
Responsibility: Irene Spencer Travel LLC, Protravel International, Protravel
Southwest Div. and OFI (its owner, associates, agents and employees) give notice
that they assume no responsibility for injury, loss or damage to person or
property in connection with any service resulting directly or indirectly from
acts of god, animal bites or injuries, detention, annoyance, delays and expenses
arising from quarantine, strikes, thefts, pilferage, force majeure, failure
of any means of conveyance to arrive or depart as scheduled, civil disturbances
or terrorist activities, government restrictions or regulations, discrepancies
or change in transit or hotel service over which it has no control. We will
not assume any financial responsibility for flight cancellations or hotel and/or
meal expenses related to flight delays or cancellations. We recommend travel
insurance which covers these circumstances should they occur.
Irene Spencer Travel and/or Protravel, Protravel Southwest Div. and OFI are
not responsible for loss of life, personal injury, Cancellations, delays, over-bookings,
loss or damage of baggage and/or loss of services as a result of delayed or
cancelled flights. With advance deposit to Protravel International or any of
its agents, the depositor therefore agrees to be bound by the above recited
terms and conditions.
Medical and health: Guests with existing medical conditions should make them
known to Irene Spencer well before their departure from trip point of origin.
The participants will be in remote areas in Borneo and evacuation could be
prolonged, difficult and expensive.
It is mandatory that trip participants purchase short-term traveler’s insurance
covering baggage, accident/life, trip cancellation/delay, medical evacuation
and medical expenses. Pre-existing medical conditions are only covered by travel
insurance if purchased within 14 days of making the first trip deposit. The Center for Disease Control in Atlanta (http://www.cdc.gov/trave/index.htm)
has excellent information on destinations worldwide. The World Health Organization
(http://www.who.int/ith/en/) also maintains a database on international travel
and health. Please contact your physician for information regarding malaria
precautions and shots that best meet your needs for travel to Borneo.
Cancelled trips: OFI, Irene Spencer Travel LLC., Protravel, Protravel Southwest Div.reserve the right to cancel any trip due to insufficient sign-ups. In the event of such a cancellation, those with reservations shall be notified as soon as possible and a full refund of payment for land costs will be given.OFI, Irene Spencer Travel LLC, Protravel, Protravel Southwest Div. and participating agents are not responsible for any expenses incurred for non-refundable air tickets not purchased through the group, equipment, medical costs, etc.
Accommodations: Please note that accommodations are in a rustic eco lodge.
There is air-conditioning, electricity and hot water. Accommodations are basic
but adequate. Each room has a private bathroom and shower. A mosquito net is
provided.
Passports & visas: Citizens of the U.S. and other countries will require
a passport and visa. Please make sure your passport has an entire blank page
for each country you will visit (not an amendment or endorsement page) and that your passport is valid for six months
beyond your intended period of stay. Visas can be obtained at the airport upon
arrival in Indonesia for 25.00 USD each. We also advise you to check the U.S. State department website for warnings
for travel to Indonesia and any other countries you may plan to visit: http://travel.state.gov.
Register your itinerary with the State Department registration. Travel registration
is a free service provided by the U.S. Government to U.S. citizens who are
traveling to a foreign country. Registration allows you to record information
about your upcoming trip abroad that the Department of State can use to assist
you in case of an emergency. https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/
Tipping: Tipping is not included in the price of the tour. A general guide for tipping will be included in your final documents. It is approximately 1 million rupiah per person .(approximately USD85-90 based on the fluctuating exchange rate of the the local currency)
